Why Geothermal?

Geothermal Heat Pumps (GHP) are among the most efficient and comfortable heating and cooling technologies currently available for residential and commercial buildings. GHP take advantage of the nearly constant temperatures of the earth just a few feet below the surface. They collect heat from the earth (or a body of water) during the cooler seasons and transfer heat from the building to the earth (or a body of water) during the warmer seasons. They are appropriate for use in warm or cold climates, and are more efficient than traditional heat pumps that exchange heat between a building and the outside air.

We have some challenges to face with Global Climate Change and GHP are part of the solution for home heating and cooling.

Benefits:

  • Greatly reduced energy costs
  • Reduced emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants
  • Installation cost is recovered in approximately seven years of energy savings
  • Quiet operation
  • Low maintenance costs
  • Suitable for warm or cold climates
  • With a desuperheater, it can supply you home with hot water
  • An auditor study has shown that for every $1 in yearly energy savings a home has, the sales price is $20 higher

Note: As you explore the world of geothermal heating and cooling systems, you will notice different terms used to describe the technology: Geothermal Heat Pump (GHP), Geoexchange (GX) and Ground-Source Heat Pump (GSHP). For our purposes we use the term Geothermal Heat Pump (GHP).
